Mine Recovery and Dispersal Squad
The reference
The Imperial War Museum Archive features a series of four photographs, dated 25 November 1941, showing a group of soldiers towing a naval mine away from a beach at Tayport. The personnel are wearing an intriguing combination of British naval and army uniforms.
This series of photographs caught my attention while I was researching the markings on the Bren Gun Carrier depicted for my dear friend Christian Bruer, who planned to recreate Image: IWM (A 6427) in a 1/72 scale diorama. The fascinating uniforms, combined with the striking atmosphere of Image: IWM (A 6428), which depicts soldiers bracing against the wind, inspired me to create my own diorama of this event—but in 1/144 scale.
