Hey Joe

The early days of the Vietnam War: Low over the dense jungle canopy, a U.S. Army OV-1 Mohawk slices through the humid air, its twin turboprops scattering a flock of startled parakeets. Below, concealed movement; above, relentless reconnaissance. Nearby, Jimi Hendrix unleashes a blistering solo, his wall of Marshall amps shaking the scene with raw electric force – 1/144 Vignette

The Diorama

A 1/144 Clear Prop Models OV-1 Mohawk, featuring a completely scratch-built canopy made from seven individually vacuum-formed parts and piloted by modified Heroes Models resin figures, flies over a Southeast Asian jungle created from branches and moss collected in my garden. The OV-1 startles five well-hidden parrots (in fact blossom-headed parakeets—two males and three females) with the roar of its twin turboprop engines.

Jimi Hendrix

On the other base, Jimi Hendrix—assembled from parts of several figures, extensively re-sculpted and scratch-built—delivers an extraordinary guitar solo while posing a timeless question: “Hey Joe, where you goin’ with that gun in your hand?”

“Watch out for your ears!”

he shouts as his entirely scratch-built wall of sound—each Marshall amp adorned with hand-painted Jimi Hendrix Experience stencils—begins to fill the room with the unmistakable cry of his wah-wah guitar.
